Jan Piwowarczyk, fondly known as “JP”, 60 of Damascus entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 8th at his home in Damascus, Maryland.  Jan was born June 24, 1954 in Hammond, Indiana, son of the late John “Ernie” Ernest Piwowarczyk and the late DorothyMackowiak Piwowarczyk.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Leslie (nee Poole) Piwowarczyk, step-son Charlie Appleby, Jr (Kim), sisters and brother-in-laws  Jill Nelms (David), Janell Williams (David), and Jolene Park (William), sister-in-laws Dawn Poole, Rebecca Heflin, Sharon Turner (Carl) and Curtis Poole (Beverly).  He is also survived by grandchildren Brea and Ryan Appleby, and nieces and nephews, along with extended family members and great neighbors.

Jan grew up in the Derwood area and graduated from Gaithersburg High School and continued his education at Montgomery College where he received his AA degree.  He loved all aspects of music; listening, going to concert venues, playing his bass guitars, and listening to friends playing.  Jan was a member of several small bands in his playing days.

He was retired at the time of his death, and was a senior fax and copier technician.   Jan loved to travel, which included cruising, eating out, and going to the beach.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014  from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 11:00 am.  Both events will be held at the Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home.  26401 Ridge Road. Damascus, Maryland.  Since the wearing of jeans, black t-shirt or polo, jean shirt or anything blue was Jan's signature wardrobe; please feel free to wear these in honor of him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan’s memory to The ALS Association - DC/MD/VA Chapter, 7507 Standish Place Rockville, MD 20855.

It's coming up on a year since Jan passed away; He was one of the coolest people I ever knew. He could lay down a riff on a bass guitar like nobody I ever knew. Rest in Peace, Jan Piwowarczyk.

I will miss Jan.  Lived across the street from him throughout High School.  Family with 4 kids (3 girls), came down from NY, Ernie his dad worked with IBM.  He loved music and was a great bass player.  Had a subtle sense of humor and loved to party.  I hadn't seen him for 40 years until the reunion 5 years ago.  Bless his soul; such a friendly and outgoing

person.
