I remember Gary's swimming accident, and for years wondered "why". He was a great guy, a great student and a great athlete. He had received a scholarship and was so excited. Then Jerry Oden informed me of the accident, I think it was around the 4th of July. I remember attending his funeral in a small white church with Debbie Free, Jerry Oden and others lost to time. He was one of the good guys.
From time to time over the past 45 years I have thought about how terrible this loss was. I am glad to read that Gary's smile and positive outlook still lives in so many of us.
